Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training Module I: Foundations with Melylah Botté Smith

One of the most powerful ways to create healing in society is to support those who are birthing our future. Folk is a leading national center for prenatal yoga teacher training, with graduates successfully teaching throughout the U.S., Asia and Europe. Our program is one of few that offers Yoga Alliance registration as a Prenatal Yoga School (the only nationally recognized standard for prenatal yoga teacher training), giving our graduates an assurance of quality and a unique advantage in becoming a Yoga Alliance® Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT®).

Folk's Prenatal Yoga Training, led by Melylah Smith (RPYT), lays a strong foundation for understanding the emotional, physical, and mental impact of pregnancy and birth in today’s world and birthing culture.

This robust training is divided into two 5-day modules. In Module I: Foundations, you will learn to effectively teach yoga to prenatal students in a general class. In this module, you will gain an understanding of:

  • The benefits of prenatal yoga
  • The anatomy and physiology of pregnancy
  • Common pregnancy discomforts
  • The concepts of birth culture, birth crisis, and birth justice
  • How to use trauma-Informed, inclusive language and cueing
  • How to create a supportive community
  • How to modify yoga postures for pregnancy

Throughout this training, you will be guided through profound conversations centered around how to collectively heal and grow as a society by uplifting birthing people regardless of race, class, or gender identity. Module I: Foundations is recommended for any yoga teacher who wants to better understand the physical and emotional aspects of pregnancy, and to be able to teach general classes with pregnant students in them. It’s also recommended for pregnant students, themselves, as well as birth workers and educators.

**This module is a prerequisite to Module II: Advanced Techniques for those wanting to gain certification. It can be taken on its own for additional CEUs. Both modules are required for those wishing to become a Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher (RPYT®).**
